Father's Day on the Bay

A San Francisco Sunday morning began with sunshine and no fog. That was a bonus. Here are a couple of pics of the Presido in the very early morning hours.

On my way to San Francisco I stopped off along the coast and found these seals lounging.

Santa Barbara is On Fire

Just before sunset a cloud formation unexpectively rolled in. As I looked out the window, I saw a huge smoke cloud streaming down the coast from the Santa Barbera wildfires. I quickly dispatched to the beach for the sunset.

Heat Wave

Warm easterly winds brought high clouds most of the day. As the sun was setting, I made my way to the beach to record the event.

For an April evening, this was a really great sunset. Usually by now, there are not many clouds hanging around close to sunset. It is always clear skies all day long.

Flower Contest

Our photo club contest assignment this month was flowers. I waited for the longest time hoping a rain storm would blow in and make my job easier. It never happened.

I hunted around the neighborhood and settled on these two flowers to submit for the contest.

Near Full Moon

My good friend, Jack, lent me his 400mm f/2.8 lens with a 2X convertor. The closeups I took of the moon are really spectacular. This lens is most amazing.

April Storm

A couple of storms were forecast to hit the Los Angeles area this week. Both missed and no raindrops fell upon the South Bay.

I thought the storm clouds would produce a stunning sunset but I was wrong. Instead it left a lame sunset.

Playa del Rey Playground

A playful Saturday morning at Playa Del Rey.
Beautiful thick clouds filled the sky and made for nice background for the rich, blue sky.

Kites

I found this pirate ship kite quite fascinating and the perfect kite for the Redondo Beach pier.

The most unique prize goes to this half-ass kite.

Redondo Beach Kite Festival

Hundreds of kites took to the sky this afternoon just south of the Redondo Beach pier.

There were many interesting kite designs that were not available when I was a kid. The most sophisicated was a box kite back then.

Also interesting were all the bright colors that offset a deep blue sky.

Lighthouse

Clouds quickly took over the sky after sunset and left only a dark and cool bluish sky as a background.

Rowboats

The local college row team prepares for the upcoming meet. Not even the setting sun can deter these young men from one last row for the day.

Foxtails in Winter

Winter is slowly losing its grip as each day becomes longer. The last rays of the day pierce the foxtails as they await the night.
